Over 32,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines have been injured in Iraq or Afghanistan since 9-11-2001. OWYH wants to make sure these honorable and dedicated young men and women are not forgotten by those they swore to protect… the citizens of the United States of America.

Join them on May 25th at Settlers Park and help them show our wounded warriors that they are not forgotten. You may sign up as an individual runner, as a wounded warrior runner, as a member of an active duty/reserve military team, or a military veterans team. (Teams must have five members. All members of an active duty or reserve military team must be members of the same military unit.)

Participants ages 9-14 compete in events such as the 50, 100, 200 and 400 meter dash, 800 and 1600 meter run, the softball throw and the standing long jump. Athletes may enter up to three events; either two running and one field event or two field and one running event. It’s a great opportunity to have fun and get active—and it’s free!

The event takes place on May 30, 2012.  Check-in time is 5:oo p.m. Pre-registration is required by next Thursday, May 23rd.   Please call (815) 436-8812.

Bring in anything with a plug that doesn’t work or you don’t need!  Scrap metal also makes money for their school including aluminum cans.  They cannot accept major appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators, etc.  ALL small electronics, computers, PC’s, modems, etc. are acceptable.  Donations are tax-deductible.  All money raised will benefit the school’s “Go Green” team.  Pass the word on to others!!!

Now in its 21st year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. To participate in the Stamp Out Hunger drive, Plainfield residents are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup and vegetables, pasta, and rice or cereal next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 11. Local letter carriers will collect these food donations as they deliver the mail and take them to the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry.

The Recreation/Administration Center also has an after-hours registration drop box located outside the front door.
